Hi,
I am about to begin college, and I want a portable scanner of some sort. For some reason, VR will not purchase me a scanner, and want me to use an inaccessible HP scanner with a bunch of graphics in the software that Jaws won't read. Thus far, I have only investigated the Pearl from Freedom Scientific and the EPal. In my opinion, the Pearl was way more accurate than the EPal. Does anyone else know of any portable scanners that can scan multiple pages at a time I.E. more than 2 pages?
If you do, you can contact me at nbullock18@gmail.com Looking to purchase this as a Christmas present for myself to use, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I just don't want to get ripped off and get the wrong deal.
Cannon scanners are quite nice. The lide 200 is what we are recommending and it's powered by usb and is very slim. Not like a pearl this is a flat bed scanner but the smallest one i believe you'll find.
I would also recommend the The lide 200. Although I suppose it all depends on your definition of portable.
Here's the Amazon link for it.
Right now it's at $79 on Amazon, though you may check out Newegg and other places as well.
I have an ancient CanoScan n7U that's about to find its way to a recycler because it won't work on modern operating systems.
Don't feel bad if a public institution won't buy stuff for ya. Now things are affordable enough that you, the independent citizen, can take control of the situation for yourself. 79 bucks is a lot if you have nothing, but skip buyin beers for a couple months and you'll probbly have what you need to pick one up.
Hi guys,
I actually convinced my VR counselor to purchase a portable scanner for me. They are going to purchase OpenBook and the Pearl. I guess my second justification worked!
Thanks for the advice. When I stated that I wanted something portable, I should have said that I want something that I can carry around from class to class. The Pearl definitely fits the bill in that respect.
Thank you,
Nathan
